GENERAL MOTORS PERFORMANCE
PARTS
OFFERS LS1-V8 POWER AVAILABLE ON THE WEB
LAS VEGAS — Beginning early
next year, weekend warriors with a need for speed will find that owning a
GM Performance Parts LS1-V8 engine for custom
car and hot rod applications is only a few mouse clicks away from reality
on the General Motors Service Parts Operations (SPO) Internet Web site at www.gmgoodwrench.com.
The GM Motorsports
factory-produced LS1-V8 utilizes the same technology as the Vortec Red,
which was named the official 2000 season engine of the ASA ACDelco
Challenge Series on July 10. The announcement of the Vortec Red’s
selection as the official engine of the ASA heralded the introduction of
electronic timing and fuel injection to the ASA.
"The GM factory-produced
LS1-V8 demonstrates GM's commitment to prove that today's high-performance
street engines have the reliability, durability and sheer power to compete
in a very economical way in the highly competitive world of stock car
racing," says Michael Fellberg, GM SPO’s General Product Manager.
"The tight-build tolerances of the LS1, combined with the accuracy of
electronic controls, means a greater emphasis on ASA driver ability, not
the ability to purchase horsepower, creating a highly competitive
motorsport venue that truly can be called ‘stock.’
The GM Performance Parts
street-modified version of the Camaro/Firebird LS1- V8,
which will be available online in early 2000, comes complete with fuel
injectors, exhaust manifolds, flex plate, ECM and a wiring harness that
enables easy installation on any 1975 or earlier vehicle with four-speed
automatic transmissions. The engine features an aluminum block and
cylinder heads with a 10.25:1 compression ratio, rated at 320 horsepower
at 5800 RPM and 330 foot-pounds of torque at 4400 RPM.
In the first quarter of 2000,
ordering the LS1-V8--and other GM Performance Parts, including new crate
engines like the 383 Vortec for trucks, the 350 HO Deluxe, Fast Burn 385
and current ZZ Small-Block partial engines and 502/502 just to name a few
— will be as simple as visiting the GM Performance Parts area within www.gmgoodwrench.com
to download a list of GM Performance Parts Authorized Centers from which
to order these engines and parts for vintage street rods, street machines
or competition vehicles.

Blanc, Mich., markets automotive replacement parts and accessories
