"Corvette Site Of The Week" for the new C5 introduction.
The "Light Blue" C5 was an artist computer enhanced conception taken from one of the covered spy photos !

Pre-November Spy Page

This report on the new Corvette is from a visitor to the News Media event in Atlanta:

I am curious if GM is only going to offer three colors of paint- we only saw red, black, and Sebring silver. Our source said the red ones were equipped with Z-51 suspension.

· The vents in the lower back bumper are functional, as the muffler cans are in front of them, and air passes from the rear wheels past the can and out the rear bumper vents. The front exposes the driving lights required for 97, and actually looked like a camera lens- THAT would have made some GREAT SPY PHOTOS!

· The speedometer and tach could be seen, hence the statement by someone concerned about the digital dash being gone. The tach is half moon, the speedo goes almost full circle. The key is back on the dash.

· The rear window is much narrower, and when the hatch is popped, the fiberglass surround lifts up with the window. The window is not near as round- more of a wedge shape where it meets with the body.

· The tail lights are oval, and the side marker lights are oval too, and are much larger than pictures had previously shown- about 5" long.

· Be forewarned, as I expect some to base a decision on if the newest C-5 is going to look like a Corvette. When you touch it, it feels like a Vette. When it accelerates, it sounds like a Vette, when it goes around the slalom, it looks like it handles like a Vette. The interior looks like a Vette. The flip up headlights look like a Corvettes. I believe I have made my point. What you will see in 1997 is a sharp looking, great performing CORVETTE!

Confidential Dealer Requirements
Chevrolet sent out a confidential internal memo and outline of the requirements to sell the C-5. Only dealers who sold 12 Corvettes in the 1996 Model year will qualify. Those dealers must send sales people to a C-5 certification school, Display the covered C-5 in a special area of the showroom away from other cars, cover it until January 6th with a special cover (dealer cost $130), and purchase a $1300 sales promotion kit. In addition, due to advanced body design, electronics, and mechanical, body and service personnel must be certified by GM before delivery.
